Exploding Rockets, Volatility, and Mars
Happy Day RoboWarriors!
Look up there! Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Nope, it's a big shiny rocket going kablooey. Mind you, the biggest rocket ever built. Also the most powerful. Still don’t know what we’re talking about? We are talking about the SpaceX Starship exploding 24 miles high in the Texas sky on Thursday the 20th of April. (Are we the only ones thinking it would have been better on the 1st?) What may seem strange however is that those who designed and built it...applauded. You read that right, they both cheered and applauded their own rocket bursting into a ka-jillion pieces. You might be asking, “Why?” And that is certainly a good question. It’s because they learned things that can only be learned in the actual and hard arena of real-world testing. They never expected it to be perfect. In fact, they never planned on even retrieving it. In their own words, "With a test like this, success comes from what we learn, and today’s test will help us improve Starship’s reliability as SpaceX seeks to make life multi-planetary.”
NASA Administrator Bill Nelson and retired International Space Station Commander Chris Hadfield hailed it as “a real accomplishment” and “so successful”. In fact, according to reports, as long as the rocket left the launchpad, it was going to be considered a success.
While many will laugh and scoff at the seemingly failed attempt, those who designed and built it seemed okay with it all. That’s the difference between the crowd and experts. Those who know have a plan. They have already analyzed the probabilities and weighed the outcomes. They have a view from the cockpit upon which they are operating. The rest are just along for the ride. Herein lies the fault line twixt the spectators and the innovators.
Do you know an investor or trader who complains about volatility? (that's not you of course :) Granted, it can be hard to sit by and watch all that hard-earned and carefully invested money/assets go up and down, up and down — and it's perfectly natural to become exasperated when looking for a certain direction at a certain time. However, as many traders say, “Volatility is your friend.” Without the ups and downs, there would be no markets to invest in. Think about it…would it be possible to get a good entry point on that trade or investment without volatility? How about that coveted exit point?
Again, those with a plan understand the how's and the why’s and have applied themselves to the task of profiting from it. Every investor has to perform a personal inventory from time to time. Evaluate and re-evaluate their plans and positions. This is how value and utility are created.
Did you know that SpaceX, NASA, and RBIF have some things in common? That’s right! I suppose the most obvious would be the relationship between NASA and SpaceX, with the former paying the latter to develop a version of the Kablooey Kapsule that can send real live (?) astronauts to the moon. And beyond those are plans to build yet another version of said K Kapsule to deliver human beings (and robotic dogs :) to Mars. So where does RBIF fit into all this you ask? Great question; allow us the opportunity to give you a satisfactory answer:
